Republic Square is the main square of Yerevan, which until 1991 bore the name of Lenin. General layout of the square was designed by famous Armenian architect A. Tamanian. It took 34 years to realise this grandiose project. Originally the shape of the square supposed to be oval, but later it acquired a more complex form - the combination of the oval with the trapezoid. All the buildings surrounding the Square: the White House of Armenia, the Museum of Armenian History, the Armenia Marriott Hotel, the Central Post Office building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Energy - built of tufa, and its pedestal is made of basalt. The White House of Armenia represents a polygon with an internal courtyard. One side of the polygon is oval, with the main entrance facing the eastern part of the area. On the western side of the square symmetrically is placed the Ministry House . Formation of the architectural complex was completed in 1950 with construction of the Armenia Hotel with the simultaneous reconstruction of the Communication House. Large arched portals and individual fine decor emphasize the uniqueness of these buildings.

The stay in the Ararat hotel will become one of the most pleasant memories of your visit to Yerevan.
